GENERAL INFORMATION
Frankfurt is the gateway to Germany (at least the commercial and industrial hubs). It is a city of contrasts and though it never became the capital of west Germany it is the gateway city for most international travels. Frankfurt is Goethe’s birthplace and the cultural center of western Germany, plus home to some of Europe’s financial institutions and a 21st century skyline. Some call it is Europe’s ‘Mainhatten’. With over 400 banks (including the headquarters of the German Bundesbank and the European Central Bank) and the Frankfurt Stock Exchange, this city is one of the world's most important financial centers.

TRANSPORTATION
Frankfurt Airport comes closer to this ideal than any other major European airport. For example, nowhere are connecting routes as short as between the long-distance or regional train station to Terminal 1 and, via the Sky Line people mover, to Terminal 2 at Frankfurt. The Frankfurt Airport is designed to cause minimum waiting times and maximum convenience for quick orientation for all travelers. At this airport convenient and reliable connections are the norm.

The airport is 18km (11mi) southwest of the city. All prices in US dollars, Euro exchange rate is 1.2 to .8 depending upon economic conditions.
Taxi, a trip to and from the center of Frankfurt costs approximately 20 euros and takes 30 minutes, depending on traffic conditions.
Trains
Frankfurt Airport has two railway stations The long-distance railway station is at the AIRail Terminal, right next to Terminal 1. Trains arrive at and depart from platforms 4 to 7. In addition, there is a local railway station for S-Bahn, regional and local trains at Terminal 1, Level 1. Trains arrive at and depart from platforms 1 to 3. Both railway stations are linked to Terminal 2 via buses and the Sky Line.
