GENERAL INFORMATION
SAN JOSE, a sprawling young city of 800,000, is no longer a cultural and economic suburb of San Francisco. It is the center of the Silicon Valley, an economic powerhouse, that some say overshadows the famous city to the north. That said, most of the famous names (Intel, Apple, etc.) of the Valley actually have their headquarters outside of San Jose's city limits plus a good deal of the cultural and economic life of the area exits in the universities, town centers and malls of the smaller cities to the north Palo Alto, Santa Clara, Sunnyvale, Los Gatos, Saratoga, Mountain View etc.

The Silicon Valley is a symbolic geographic area that includes all of Jose Jose Palo Alto, Santa Clara, Sunnyvale, Los Gatos, Saratoga, Mountain View plus as far south as Morgan Hill and to the east Silicon Valley extends past Milipitas and Fremont to Hayward just south of Oakland.

The major airport of the Silicon Valley is located two miles north of downtown San Jose and is serviced by Alaska, American, America West, Continental, Delta, Horizon Air, Mexicana, Northwest, Southwest, United and United Express.
Airport Courtesy Shuttles departs at designated points approximately every 10 minutes from 5 a.m. - 12 midnight then until- 5 a.m., shuttle buses continue to make a constant loop of the terminals and the parking lots at a reduced schedule.
There are many Door to Door shuttles (San Jose Express Shuttle: 408-370-0701, Santa Clara Airporter: 800-771-7794 are two examples), also free hotel shuttles, limousine services, taxis, rail service and buses serve the south bay area and connect to San Francisco and Oakland International Airports.

Light rail service is provided 7 days a week from early morning to midnight. They operate every 10 minutes weekdays; every 15 minutes Saturdays and Sundays and holidays. Service is provided every 30 minutes on all evenings. The 33 light rail stations are served by of VTA buses, plus free parking spaces are provided at the 10 light rail stations in South San Jose.
