Boulder, with an elevation of 5,354 ft (1,632 m),is 30 miles (48 km) northwest of Denver. Organized in 1859 and named for the large stones in the area, it was incorporated as a town in 1871 and grew with the arrival of the railroads. The establishment there of the University of Colorado (1876) and extensive government-industrial-educational complex has caused Boulder to become a leading center for scientific and environmental research.

Pearl Street Mall: A "main street mall" walkway with boutiques, restaurants, art galleries, bars, sidewalk cafes, and mini-parks. Street musicians and jugglers often perform at night and during the day.
The University of Colorado: One of the most beautiful campuses in the country, situated nest to the Pearl Street Mall. Visit the University's Museum.
The Museum of Boulder: Contemporary Art is a non-profit contemporary visual and performing arts facility serving Colorado.
